The Rosenbach serves as the repository for the work of author and illustrator Maurice Sendak (1928 - ), creator of some of the world's best-loved children's books. The collection comprises over 10,000 preliminary and final drawings, manuscripts, and rare editions from more than 80 books including Where the Wild Things Are.

The collection also includes:
William Blake: original drawings and books.
Lewis Carroll: more than 600 letters, his rarest photographs, books, and more.
James Joyce: manuscript for Ulysses.
Joseph Conrad: manuscripts for two-thirds of his literary works, including Lord Jim, Nostromo, and The Secret Agent.
